    Questions about annuities in Korea

Do you need a power of attorney to pay?
No. In Korea any person may pay registration fees and annuities for the owner, so we can pay as soon as you instruct us. If another Korean firm handles the right, it may still send you its own reminders: tell it that we are paying.
    When is an annuity due?
The registration fee for years 1 to 3 is due within 3 months of receiving KIPO's decision to grant. From the 4th year, each year's annuity is due by the anniversary of the registration date that starts that year. Late payment is possible for 6 more months with a surcharge of 3% for each month started, up to 18%.
Can I pay several years at once?
Yes. You can pay any number of future years in one payment. KIPO takes 10% off when 3 or more years are paid at once and none is overdue, and our fee is $40 for the first year and $20 for each further year.
    What does the fee include?
Registration fee: $80, including the report and the electronic registration certificate (PDF). A paper certificate sent by EMS is $50 more, KIPO's reissue fee and postage included. Annuities: $40 for each payment plus $20 for each further year paid at the same time. KIPO's official fees are added at cost.
    Are there reductions?
If every owner is an individual who is also the inventor or designer, any nationality, KIPO's registration fee is 70% lower and the annuities from the 4th year are 50% lower. Korean small and medium-sized companies also qualify; contact us for those.
What if the payment deadline has passed?
Within 6 months of the deadline we can still pay with KIPO's surcharge, which the quote includes. After that, a patent, utility model or design can be restored within 3 months by paying twice the annuity: contact us at once.
    Who handles the payment?
Registered Korean patent attorneys at LNB IP LAW FIRM, Seoul. We pay at KIPO and email you KIPO's receipt. Questions: lnbip@lnbip.com.
